PRESS RELEASE: The Circus Rolls On for Shane Cooley

The saga of singer-songwriter Shane Cooley continues with a new five-track EP, “The Circus Rolls On.” Spawned from a phrase Cooley has used over the years as a traveling musician, “The Circus Rolls On” celebrates life’s continuation. Self-produced at his home studio, Cooleyland, in Mollusk, Virginia, Cooley drew inspiration from some of his first memories of music. “My parents were usually listening to 1960s radio stations when I was growing up,” said Cooley, “Still, as a child of the ‘80s, a lot of that bled through as well. I've always been facinated with the anatomy of a track; how arrangements can make a song live and breathe." "The Circus Rolls On" also represents Cooley's self-actualization as a producer. "There's technology for everything now, but there's no app for lightning in a bottle. Every song is a moment, waiting to be captured."

Two tracks on the EP feature Cooley’s father, Jack, on the drums, recorded on Fathers Day. “My dad (Shane’s former high school principal) has a natural ear for music. When I was eight years old he was messing around with ‘For What It’s Worth,” by The Buffalo Springfield on his guitar, and invited me to try out the drums,” remembers Cooley. “Music has been my life ever since.” The EP also features backing vocals by Austin, Texas artist Lori Ellen. “Lori and I started singing together in song circles years ago,” said Cooley. “She stopped by Cooleyland before our midwest tour. Both my father and Lori brought some real heart and soul to this project.” The rest of the instruments were performed by Cooley himself.

“The Circus Rolls On” releases October 28 on all streaming platforms. The EP follows April’s full-length “Forest,” as well as singles “Stella Ray,” and “Dracula,” making a total of seventeen songs released by Cooley in 2022. The third cousin of voice actor Sterling Holloway (Winnie The Pooh, Alice in Wonderland), Cooley is known for his distinct voice and prolific songwriting. Originally from Virginia, he hangs his hat between home, Austin (where he lived for seven years), and the road. Along his travels, he has opened for artists such as Adia Victoria, Wood & Wire and Wild Child. “He’s one hit away from radio stardom,” wrote Billboard critic Jeff Miller.
