Shane Cooley was ready for a mental vacation when he penned and self-produced his new summer single, “Stella Ray.” “One of my favorite Beach Boys songs is ‘Barbara Ann,” said Cooley. “In the recording, you can hear people laughing and carrying on in the background. I love the spirit of escapism in that.” Songwriting Magazine (U.K) editor Duncan Haskell wrote, "With a naïve charm that can only be achieved by an accomplished arranger (think Brian Wilson), ‘Stella Ray’ is a chance for Shane Cooley to show off his breezy side. Injected with the sounds of 60s pop, it’s a serious summer jam." Austin Chronicle described Stella Ray as "a pure fun, off-kilter, folk-pop minature."
Cooley wrote over twenty songs in consideration for his acclaimed new album, Forest (released April 2022). “Most of the other songs were pretty heavy thematically, and ‘Stella Ray’ seemed to be a response to that. It's an upbeat little tune, so I decided to wait and release it for summertime.” Cooley self-produced and played all the instruments on the single. "Stella Ray" released July 8 on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, Amazon Music, TikTok, Deezer and more.
Deemed “exquisite” by Songwriting Magazine, Cooley’s album Forest continues to receive press, airplay and accolades, both in the U.S. and internationally. “(Forest) stands out for its peculiar production and lyrical beauty, which is highly remarkable considering that Cooley himself played all the instruments and produced this work in its entirety,” wrote Javier Rodriquez of Right Chord Music. The album was featured on Release Radar and Discover Weekly on Spotify.
Shane Cooley is a singer/songwriter from Mollusk, Virginia. He also often hangs his hat in Austin, Texas. Cooley will be on tour from Richmond to Chicago in July with Austin artist Lori Ellen. Tour dates, music, videos and more can be found at http://www.shanecooley.com.
